Post-Workout: MHP DARK MATTER
Within the first 60 minutes following your HICT workouts, your muscles act like “sponges” for critical nutrients such as glucose, amino acids and creatine. Providing these nutrients will accelerate the recovery process. This is the purpose of MHP’s DARK MATTER. HICT relies heavily on muscle glycogen for fuel. To help replenish glycogen levels as quickly as possible, Dark Matter supplies 48 grams of carbohydrates consisting of waxy maize, glucose polymer, dextrose and a patented, concentrated source of the insulin-sensitizing agent C3G. This promotes maximum glucose uptake and synthesis of glycogen by tired muscle cells. The proprietary creatine matrix in DARK MATTER supports rapid replenishment of muscle creatine levels, while glycerol monostearate restores proper levels of hydration and plasma volume. DARK MATTER also stimulates muscle protein synthesis with an infusion of essential amino acids. BCAAs: MHP BCAA 3300
Leucine, isoleucine and valine comprise the so-called “branched chain amino acids” (BCAAs). The BCAAs play key roles in protein and energy metabolism and have numerous inter-relationships with glutamine. In fact, research suggests that supplementing with glutamine and BCAAs simultaneously can effectively “reinforce” one another, resulting in greater benefits. MHP’s BCAA 3300 uses a highly anabolic 4:1:1 ratio of leucine to isoleucine to valine, yielding double the quantity of leucine found in most other products. Leucine is the most anabolic amino acid known, largely due to its ability to stimulate and regulate muscle protein synthesis and exercise-induced muscle hypertrophy. Glutamine: MHP GLUTAMINE-SR
Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the human body. In general, glutamine supplementation is likely to have the greatest impact under catabolic conditions such as after long, exhaustive HICT workouts, or when there is a shortage of calories or carbohydrate (e.g. fasting, or low-carbohydrate or calorie-reduced diets). Under these conditions, glutamine is converted into glucose at an accelerated rate. This helps maintain the glucose economy. On the downside, it can lower glutamine levels, which may impede the growth and recovery of muscle. MHP’s GLUTAMINE-SR was designed on the basis of research indicating that the stomach “steals” approximately 70% of any glutamine load ingested. This leaves only a small portion available for distribution to peripheral tissues such as skeletal muscle. MHP’s product development team set out to overcome this hurdle by developing and patenting a technology that protects the glutamine and allows for a slower release for up to 12 consecutive hours. In addition to its anabolic and anti-catabolic effects, athletes report that supplementing with glutamine, particularly in combination with BCAAs, helps prevent muscle soreness and reduce recovery time.
